PROJECT - kitchen nook

As long as we've lived in our apartment, we've been unsatisfied with our recycling system. As shown in the image below, our system has been storing recyclables in the corner nook of our kitchen, until recycling day, when they would be carried to the alley in a box. Clutter and frustration, as often a misplaced cutting board in the drying rack would send wine bottles crashing to the floor.

After some rearranging of the pantry, we've created a little space for a pull out recycling bin! Also, with the space of our kitchen nook opened up, we installed a foldaway IKEA GRUNTEL drying rack. Now things are looking clean and organized, and hopefully we won't have so many instances of broken glass!

DECOR - wood / concrete dining table

Dining table which combines reclaimed wood and concrete, by Barefoot Design, in the Smart Home exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago.

"Wood is celebrated throughout the interior design, in the furnishings as well as decorative pieces such as thetwig chandeliers and a driftwood candelabra. Several pieces were designed especially for the Smart Home from reclaimed wood which was rescued after a very old bur oak tree located on the museum grounds fell during a storm last year. The side table stumps, dining table and headboard all use wood from this tree, which we found to be very much in keeping with the ideals and aesthetics of the Smart Home design."

PROJECT - merrimeko tapestry

Around my birthday I posted a WISH LIST of wall decor items, one being this Merrimeko tapestry, TULIP. Although it would pop more against a darker wall, I am very happy with it above the fireplace.

Today I'm working on a new design for an industrial felt chair cover. I'm pretty obsessed with making folding chairs comfortable and cool looking, as we have several of them stored in the basement for whenever an extra person or 6 stop by. When you don't have a dinning room, and your storing things in a damp basement, cheap folding chairs are the way to go. That doesn't mean they can't get be comfortable and get dressed up a bit for company! Also, good for the patio.
